MALCOLM(red tie)

Malcolm (red tie) is the next limited print offering by Alvin Armstrong. This print comes from Malcolm Had Feelings Too, 2020, a series of 32 original paintings of Malcolm X, created between June 19, 2020, and July 4, 2020. The series serves as a memorial to Malcolm X and a dedication to the Black lives lost to police brutality in America.

Malcolm Had Feelings Too references Andy Warhol’s 32 Campbell’s Soup Cans. As someone new to art history, Alvin discovered Warhol’s work and felt called to create 32 portraits of Malcolm X in response. Alvin began the series on Juneteenth and then once he set the goal of creating 32 works decided he’d push to finish the series by July 4th, 2020, intentionally bookending the creation of the work with significant moments of Black American independence.

Now, for the first time ever, a print from Malcolm Had Feelings Too is being made available.
